IDENTIGENE holds several accreditations in DNA testing for legal purposes. Our laboratories undergo regular evaluations by independent auditors to ensure that your paternity test results comply with accepted standards and practices required by most courts, child support or child welfare agencies, U.S. embassies, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and other legal entities.

These DNA testing accreditations apply specifically to DNA paternity tests. However, IDENTIGENE applies these same standards for laboratory processes and results reporting to all relationship cases. This means that you get the same accuracy and reliability with your personal paternity test as a DNA test for legal purposes. We provide the most reliable results commercially available for other DNA tests, including DNA tests for grandparents, siblings, aunts or uncles.

IDENTIGENE maintains two laboratories, one in Houston (Texas) and one in Salt Lake City (Utah). Both locations process DNA tests for paternity (and other relationships) as well as criminal forensics. The chart below illustrates the accreditations that apply to each laboratory.

The AABB Parentage Testing Accreditation Program is based on standards for the performance of parentage tests for legal purpose (does not include testing performed on samples where the chain of custody has not been verified by a third party). IDENTIGENE has been member in good standing with the AABB since 2000. (This accreditation applies to both the SLC and Houston laboratories.)

(SLC Laboratory) The International Standards Organization (ISO) is a network of national standard institutes from 148 countries working in partnership with international organizations, governments, industry, business and consumer representatives. Sorenson Genomics received its accreditation for all its products/services in March 2004 by the Forensic Quality Services International division of ISO.

FQS-I (ISO-17025) Accreditation Certificate
(Houston Laboratory) DNA paternity testing (and all other DNA testing) in the state of New York requires accreditation with the New York State Department of Health. IDENTIGENE offers DNA testing services for New York residents who comply with state guidelines including a physician's prescription (or court order) for DNA testing and collection by an independent third party.

In addition to laboratory accreditations for DNA paternity testing, Sorenson Genomics also particpates in proficiency testing programs designed to improve standards and practices among genetic testing laboratories and businesses:

CAP Testing. The College of American Pathologists (CAP) offers several DNA genotyping proficiency testing services. Sorenson Genomics participates in CAP testing for paternity, forensic identity, and mitochondrial DNA proficiency.

NIST. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Biotechnology program advances the commercialization of biotechnology by developing the scientific/engineering technical base, reliable measurements, standards, data and models to enable U.S. industry to quickly and economically produce biochemical products with appropriate quality control. Sorenson Genomics participates in the NIST Biotechnology programs for Y-chromosome and identity proficiency testing.

IDENTIGENE is also a member in good standing with the BBB (Texas and Utah) and participates in the BBB Online Reliability program.
