DNA TESTING: ANCESTRY SEARCHES AND APPROXIMATION OF ANCESTRAL REGIONS

DNA does not follow modern day political borders. For example, someone living in modern day Austria will have a genetic makeup that includes Austrian, German, Prussian, Hungarian, Roman and Celtic mixes. While it's not currently possible to identify "Austrian DNA", Ancestry By DNA ™ can perform ancestry searches based on differentiation between major geographic regions such as Northern European (which includes Austria, Germany, and regions to the northwest) or Middle Eastern (which includes Turkey, Egypt and/or Israel). Of course, someone living in modern day Austria is likely to have an MLE percentage in both groups.

The DNA Ancestry Map (below) illustrates approximate modern day geographic regions which correspond to Ancestry Informative Markers (AIMs) available with the Ancestry By DNA ™ test.
