Preservation of DNA material at home can be problematic and changes in temperature and humidity can over time render a sample unusable. Your IDENTIGENE DNA profile can be stored anywhere, in multiple copies if desired.

How the DNA Safeguarding process works:

2. DNA Profile Sample Collection

   Following the included directions, use the swab to collect cells from the inside of the cheek.

3. Send the DNA Sample to IDENTIGENE

   Send the swab and completed paperwork to IDENTIGENE.

4. DNA Profile

   Your profile will be available within 2 business days. You may access your profile online or have a hard copy of the test results mailed directly to you.

Several companies are now offering home-collection kits which provide for the parent to store their child's DNA sample at home. This may sound easy and inexpensive, how ever there is a chance that samples stored at home may be un-usable in the future. Until the DNA samples are analyzed you do not know if enough DNA material was collected. Changes in temperature and humidity can over time render a sample unusable, and if the sample is not needed for a number of years it must also be stored somewhere safe from disaster, and also easily accessible. All these things make storage of DNA samples at home problematic.
