Upgrading your Home Paternity Test to a Legal Paternity Test is easy! It is important that you determine what type of results you need (Peace of Mind, or court-admissible) before you use the test. Upgrading to a Legal Paternity Test

  1. Call IDENTIGENE at 1-888-404-GENE (888-404-4363)

Calling IDENTIGENE to upgrade your home paternity test is the first step. It is critical that you order your legal upgrade before you collect the samples. Witnessed 3rd party collection is what makes a Legal Paternity Test admissible in court.

  2. Arrange DNA Collection Appointments

The IDENTIGENE DNA Test Consultant will assist you with arranging DNA collection appointments for each person participating in the Legal DNA test. Please allow 48 hours for collection.

  3. DNA Paternity Test Sample Collection

At the collection appointment, each person will provide proof of identity. The collector obtains DNA samples from each participant, using the safe and effective cheek swabs provided by IDENTIGENE. The collector sends the samples directly to our paternity testing lab.

  4. Legal Paternity Test Reporting

Your legal paternity test report will be ready 3-5 business days from the day the lab receives your samples. You may choose how your legal paternity test results are reported: online, over the phone, or have a hard copy of the test results mailed directly to you. You may also have a copy of the test results sent directly to your attorney.

Legal Paternity Testing - What is it?

Legal paternity test results are often needed for use in court. Divorce, child custody, child support, estate settlement and inheritance cases all require court admissible Legal Paternity Test Results.

Legal paternity tests with court admissible results requires proof of identity for each person participating in the legal paternity test. A DNA collector will witness the collection of the samples and verify the identity of each person participating in the legal paternity test. Following the following chain-of custody procedure outlined in the accreditation guidelines, IDENTIGENE tracts your DNA samples from collection until they arrive in our DNA testing laboratory.

DNA Collection Network

IDENTIGENE partners with a nationwide network of DNA specimen collectors. The DNA collector documents proof of identity for each person in the DNA paternity test using photographs, driver's licenses, birth certificates, or passports, on the DNA Chain-of-Custody form. The collector witnesses the DNA sample collection from each paternity test participant. The collector seals the DNA specimens and Chain-of-Custody paperwork in a tamper-proof envelope and sends it directly to our DNA paternity testing laboratory. This process tracks your samples from the time of collection all the way through DNA paternity testing.

I signed the declaration of paternity thinking this child was mine. Now years later paternity questions have been raised. I wanted a DNA paternity test to be sure.
