New York Paternity Test

Identigene DNA paternity test kits are available for New York paternity testing to provide a fast, convenient, and cost–effective option for those with paternity questions. Certified by the New York State Department of Health, Identigene is the first company to enable New York residents to purchase a DNA paternity test kit through their local drug store. Identigene paternity test kits provide New York residents help with questions only DNA can answer.

New York paternity testing does require authorization (authorizing agents may be a physician or an attorney), and the collection process must be witnessed by a “disinterested third-party” (the collector). This collection process is the same one used for court admissible paternity testing in other states.

How a New York Paternity test works

1. Purchase the Identigene paternity test kit

   Identigene DNA paternity test kits can be purchased at your local drug store.

2. Get authorization for paternity testing from an “authorizing agent”, like a physician or an attorney

   Your attorney, or any NY licensed physician can provide authorization for paternity testing. Take the included order form to them to sign. The authorizing agent will sign the order form and supply their New York state license number.

3. Go to a collector to have your DNA sample collected.

   The collector will verify and make copies of the photo identification for each test participant. If you do not have photo identification (such as for an infant or child) a recent photo will also work. The collector will open the sealed inner clamshell, witness the collection of the sample, and sign that they have done so.

   Note: Sample collection may be witnessed by your doctor or attorney when you get authorization for paternity testing.

4. Send DNA samples to Identigene

   Using the pre-paid return envelope supplied in the Identigene DNA paternity kit, the collector will mail the DNA samples to Identigene for testing.

5. Paternity test results are released

   2 business days after samples arrive at the laboratory, results are mailed to the doctor or attorney who signed the paternity test authorization. If you would like to access your results online, make sure that you provide a login ID and password on the order form.
