Definition:
A locus is a specific location on the DNA chromosome for a gene. A DNA paternity test looks at up to 15 loci to determine paternity.
Examples:
On a DNA paternity testing result the locus is usually given a name that indicates its location. For example, D2S1339 means 'chromosome #2, location #1339.' Some loci have other, common names such as 'TPOX.'
