not excluded
Definition:
DNA paternity testing examines DNA from an alleged father and a child to see if the father can be excluded as the father (he is not the father) or not excluded as the father (he is considered to be the biological father).
Examples:
A DNA paternity test cannot examine all of the DNA from a father and child and must make a prediction about paternity based on the markers tested. For most DNA tests the power of statistics allows the lab to look at a few markers (up to 15) and determine whether a father is excluded (does not match the child) or not excluded (matches the child). When an alleged father is not excluded, the probabiliy of paternithy is usually greater than 99.99%.
