paternity index
Definition:
In a DNA paternity test, the paternity index (or parentage index) measures the strength of a genetic match between an alleged father and a child.
Examples:
At a particular location on the gene, an alleged father may share an allele measuring '18' with the child. If it is very common to have an allele measuring '18' at this location, the match is considered weak and will be given a small paternity index. If the match is very uncommon, it is considered strong and given a higher paternity index.
